Humble Oneself
The Gospel for tomorrow (October 24, 2010) is taken from Luke 18: 9 -14 , below is the text taken from dailygospel.org
Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 18:9-14.
Jesus addressed this parable to those who were convinced of their own righteousness and despised everyone else.
Two people went up to the temple area to pray; one was a Pharisee and the other was a tax collector.
The Pharisee took up his position and spoke this prayer to himself, 'O God, I thank you that I am not like the rest of humanity--greedy, dishonest, adulterous--or even like this tax collector.
I fast twice a week, and I pay tithes on my whole income.'
But the tax collector stood off at a distance and would not even raise his eyes to heaven but beat his breast and prayed, 'O God, be merciful to me a sinner.'
I tell you, the latter went home justified, not the former; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and the one who humbles himself will be exalted."
Such a simple reminder yet always taken for granted. If we count our blessings in this world we often forget that these were all given by God and we forsake all His teaching and become boastful as the same told in the Gospel, I am no exception to this. Come to think of it, if we just humbled ourselves, we would not have any fights, disagreements, and wars. If we would just humble ourselves we might be able to solve everything without gaining an enemy and makes us better people. We now face a world were evil is all over, temptation is just a millimeter away, these are serious times and it's up to us to fight this for I believe if we can just be mindful of our ways, this world that we live will turn out the way He wants it to be.
In closing I would like to share one of my favorite songs that complements the Gospel's theme and at the same time remind us of His message, sung by the world renowned Jamie Rivera - Heal Our Land.
